Jim Williams overcomes a tough challenge of Swedens Dennis Nilsson 3-2

No 9 seed Jim Williams came back from the brink to edge out Dennis Nilsson in a five-set thriller in one of the best matches of the championship.

Nilsson was 66 points away from victory in the fourth leg of the third set and with defeat a near certainty should he miss, Williams found double top with his last dart to complete a 96 check out. Nilsson then threw for the match in the next and again, Williams rose to the challenge, breaking for the set. He then went on to level the match at 2-2.

The fifth set went to a tie break at 2-2 and Williams got a crucial break in the fifth leg, stepping across the oche to steer his last dart into double 10. Full of confidence, Williams kicked off the sixth leg with a maximum 180 to set up a match-winning hold of the throw.
